Men Get Stretch Marks Too!

Contrary to what some people believe, stretch marks aren’t exclusive to females. Men and stretch marks do go together sometimes. Skin is skin, regardless of sex, and when it is stretched, the stretch marks appear. Quality stretch marks treatments can help make the skin more pliable and allow it to stretch more, but the skin also has its limits.  Some causes of stretch marks include rapid weight gain, growth spurts and adolescence.

In men, lifting weights and bodybuilding can make stretch marks to appear. In bodybuilding, stretch marks develop because the skin stretches over the tendons. Teenage boys, thanks to fast growth spurts, can find themselves developing stretch marks on their arms and legs.

Men don’t have any control over how fast they grow during puberty so they can’t actually prevent stretch marks completely. But then, they can watch the rate of muscle growth, as well as their weight, ensuring that they don’t experience weight variations as these can result to stretch marks.  So, preventing stretch marks is really a matter of common sense and awareness.

The stretch marks that men get are ordinarily less noticeable or not as apparent as the stretch marks women get. The reason for this lies in a hormone known as corticosteroid, which masculine bodies overproduce. This hormone keeps the body in check so that it doesn’t make too much collagen, which is a protein normally found in skin fibers and is responsible for keeping the skin stretchable.

But like women, men do worry about their appearance, and their confidence may take a hit when men get stretch marks. This is why men need to look into the various stretch mark treatment options available.   Using treatments like Revitol stretch mark removal cream can help fade stretch marks so they are barely visible.

Once stretch marks make their appearance, they can no longer be removed. Men can do a few things to make sure they don’t get stretch marks. For one, men can keep their skin hydrated by drinking a great deal of water every day. It’s also important that they make veggies, fruits, dairy products, seeds and nuts a normal part of their diet.

Some men get stretch marks primarily due to genetics. Men should check if stretch marks run in the family. A man’s chances of experiencing stretch marks increase if his father and grandfather had them.

Generally, men are unwilling to seek medical assistance, but they must be encouraged to see a dermatologist when stretch marks appear and are causing self-esteem issues.

Dermabrasion and laser stretch mark treatments are available. A certified cosmetic surgeon performs these procedures. What these treatments do is improve the color and texture of the skin so the stretch marks are less noticeable.
